ENVIRONMENT

The fashion industry has a huge impact on our environment and is one of the leading causes of climate change. We are a brand that believes it is important to keep environmental issues at the top of our agenda in order to ensure our long-term sustainable growth and limit our impact on the environment. It’s not just the right thing to do, it makes sense for our business. We have started with a small collection of everyday luxury sleepwear pieces. Our goal is to gradually increase our collections with new prints and new designs, whilst sticking to our everyday luxury, made to be worn model. As a young brand it can be difficult to get everything exactly right first time. We are not perfect and we believe that acknowledging this is half the battle to improving and becoming a leader in this area. We want to create positive change in what we do. Our brand conscience is our priority and we are committed to improving our sustainability performance year on year.

QUALITY

We source the finest materials and the best factories to create our timeless, everyday luxury pieces. They are designed to last and made to be worn. We want to encourage our customers to move away from disposable fashion. To take time to consider the purchases that they make and to love their choices. Whether it’s a low-cost item or an investment piece, if the quality is good and you love wearing a garment it will be worn for years. We believe that if you buy quality, you consume less.

AU NATUREL

Over 80 billion pieces of clothing are consumed each year. Producing this volume of fabric year on year is having a massive effect on our planet in terms of natural resource use and the environmental impact of pollution and waste.

We have used 100% cotton fibres for our first collection. Our cotton is natural, soft, extremely durable, breathable and hypoallergenic. Our pieces are made to be worn daily and to last. 100% cotton is one of the most biodegradable fabrics. In compost it will biodegrade within approx. 1 to 20 weeks, allowing for the basic natural principle of returning natural fibres back to the earth. If you have worn a garment to death or have lost the love a little, think about recycling them or giving them another purpose ahead of throwing them in the bin. Give pieces a revamp, repair them, swap them with family and friends, donate to someone in need or recycle them.

We will only use synthetic fibres where absolutely necessary. Synthetic fabrics (e.g. polyester, nylon and spandex) do not exist naturally. They are created through an industrial manufacturing process where petroleum, a fossil fuel, is mechanically converted into fibres to make fabric for clothing. These fibres are in fact a form of plastic. This can affect the environment in many ways. Firstly, the production of fossil fuels emits carbon dioxide. Washing synthetic clothing releases tiny particles of plastic into our water and as a result into our oceans and food chain. Synthetic fabrics will sit in landfill for 30 years before they start to breakdown. It can take up to 200 years for them to fully biodegrade and as this process takes place these plastic fibres are breaking down into our soil and water systems. This is why we want to go au naturel.

WASTAGE

We do what we can to limit fabric wastage in production. We do this by keeping the cutting of our fabric as tight as possible and by using smaller cuts to create our eye masks.

FACTORY CERTIFICATIONS

Both our mill and our factory have Oeko-tex certification for Class I. This means that the products that they produce are free of harmful chemicals and Azo colourants.

Consumption of water and energy are the most important aspects in sustainability considerations for textile processors and manufacturers. Our mill and our factory are both GOTS certified. This certification shows both businesses commitment to environmental management criteria such as managing and setting goals and procedures reduce energy and water consumption.

PACKAGING

We have put a lot of thought into developing our packaging. Its core purpose is to protect the garment during delivery but we also wanted the unwrapping of a Moon + Mellow package to be a memorable experience that our customers would love. Our boxes are bespoke and decorated with an embossing of one of our prints. In creating good quality design led packaging our wish is for customers to value our gift boxes and to reuse them for gifting or as a beautiful accessory in their home. All of our packaging is reusable and recyclable.
